Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Inbreeding and mixed marriages on GR

Post by eyesonly3 » 13 Apr 2006 20:36

You should see the state of my tree as presented by Genes reunited. However, it only went wrong after I uploaded to GR from FH. I started my tree in PAF, then went to FTM and finally FH. Could the problems with my tree stem from an import/export problem. I have read past postings about GR problems and have tried a few things. But nothing works. I can't seem to get them to clear my tree so I can start again.

Does anyone have any similar experiences. If you think you can help an are a GR member I can let you see the scale of the problem. When a member of my ancestory appeared to be married to a member of my wifes side of the tree it was inconvenient. Now that various males are not only bigamists but married to other male members it's embarassing and upsetting.

Please help if you can. Is there anyway I can validate the tree using some indipendant software?

Have you validated the tree with in FH, this should pick up any tree errors and correct them.

One thing which might be worth trying is to set up another gr account and load the same data to the clean account and see if you get the same problems.

Hello

Nice to meet you I've read some of your posts on this subject. I ran the validate and it found no errors. I think it found errors the first time I used FH but I let ot correct them. The tree views perfectly in FH too. I just don't understand it. I will try to get GR to clear my tree completely so I can start from scratch. Otherwise I will just have to start with a bew account as you say.

Thanks

It looks like they have deleted my tree so I have uploaded a copy of my tree with the extras removed as per a previous posting of yours I read. I have also removed the children which is a possible source of the problem in the first place. Initially I had uploaded the whole tree. Then as an afterthough deleted my own children.

GR say you no longer need to delete your old tree, but if you don't it can lead to the kind of errors you describe. I suggest you delete your tree from Genesreunited then upload your GEDCOM file again.
