I found the April 2007 instructions to move FH to Vista.
I have moved it on to an external HD and it is there but I can't open the file.
Help please. I am very non technical

You need to install FH on your new machine and then copy in your GEDCOM file.
Can you confirm you have installed FH?

But sorry how do I install FH without paying for it again. I downloaded it and don't have a disk

Have downloaded Ver. 4 onto new computer but can't pay for it.
The gedcom file now appears on the new versioon

When you download any software, you should always keep a copy of the install and the registration key.
I will try and find a link to the V3.1 Trail so you can download it again.
You can buy a full license for FH 4 from

The install issue with V3->V4 upgrade does not effect the full version.
The V3.1 Trail version can be downloaded from:

Ver 4 will allow me to buy boxed set but not download.
I see something saying if I have downloaded trial version I will have to unlock that. How, please?

On the page I sent you it's the second option down, says
Family Historian 4 (download)
Alternately, just un-install V4 and download V3 from the link I posted and enter the key you got when you bought V3.
