You don't need to export to a gedcom file format as FH4 (and all the earlier versions) uses the gedcom file format to store the data! Are you trying to split the file/export a subset of the file?

What field are you storing the place name in? Have a look at Tools>Work with Data>Places to see a list of your places. Do the places names show correctly?

Also what program are you looking at the data in after you have exported it?

Thanks for the reply, I have checked my Data Places they are correct in columns 1,2,&3 occassionally also column 4 if in USA, I have tried opening the Gedcom in Legacy, FTM2010, The Complete Genealogist, they are all the same they miss the first column or placename out.
I really only want to use it in the Complete Genealogist as I like their reports.

Thanks, unfortunately it is ALL the place names that are missing the first column, Birkenhead, Eccleshall etc. I have looked for a Place Preference but cannot find one. Woe is me!

In The Complete Genealogist is there a way to map the fields from the input file (ie your FH4 gedcom file) to the output from TCG? The fields must be there if they are showing in FH4 and FH4 is about as compliant as you can get with the Gedcom standard.

Maria

Did you notice Gerry's comment 'You don't need to export to a gedcom file format' (i.e. do not use File > Import/Export > Export...)?  Just load your .ged file directly into The Complete Genealogist.  You'll find it located in your Projects folder in the sub-folder ending with '.fh_data'
