I have imported the gedcom file I made in ancestry.co.uk into family historian v5. of course all the images of birth certicates etc have been left behind. I don't really want to spend £60 on family tree maker just to us it to bulk import the document images. I have time on my side! Can I download them one by one and then put them manually into fam hist 5? I'm not sure if they right click and save as, because my ancestry.com subscription has expired, but i don't mind paying £12.50 for a month's sub to them to go through them.
grrr. !! Any suggestions gratefully received.

I've saved dozens of census images downloaded from Ancestry.co.uk and then used the excellent free
Ancestral Sources to link the image files to
Multimedia records in FH which are linked to the relevant
Source records in FH for each
Census Fact Citation.

You can certainly download and add the images to FH one by one.
See the
Knowledge Base Family Historian
Beginners Guide to
Using and Recording Sources.
Also for entering
Baptism and
Marriage details, as well as
Census records, I strongly advise using the free add-on
Ancestral Sources.
Also in FH checkout
Help > Book: 'Getting the Most From Family Historian 5' which has tutorials on
Recording Your Sources and on
Pictures & Multimedia.

Hi All,
Getting there slowly.. I have read the help documents mentioned in the above message.
I have re-opened my account with ancestry.com and downloaded an image of one of the census documents. It has the following filename when it comes from ancestry.com 1861EnglandCensus_320567765 and it is now on my desktop.
Next, I open my (practice) copy of the FH project and also Ancestral Sources (AS). AS populates the persons list on the right as it should. I can find the person involved in Ancestral Sources, but am not sure about two things. a) how much information I can expect to pull in from Ancestry.com and b)if (and where) I need to give AS an id or something to work with.
I realise that AS can't magically 'read' the image file (a jpeg) and populate the person's file that way, but I don't think that I am getting the typed info that is in Ancestry.com (probably because I am not linking something properly.
Have hit a bit of a block here. Any further help greatly appreciated.

To understand what AS offers, especially for
Census data, please review its built in
Help > Getting Started and the
AS Tutorial ~ Entering Census Facts.
AS does NOT obtain any data from any files, except the FH GEDCOM.
It must all be entered by you, but the repetitive tedium needed to enter the same data into FH is significantly reduced.
With
Census data, the idea is you enter all the relevant
Individuals and their
Census data into the central
Grid and AS then automatically creates all the
Facts for all the
Individuals all linked to one
Source Record all within FH.
AS offers many alternative modes of working, so take care to choose the
Tools > Options you prefer, before going too far.
It may be that your FH GEDCOM already has
Census Facts and cited
Source Records imported from
Ancestry.
This leaves you with two options:
(1) If the data is unsatisfactory, use AS to replace it, because it offers the option to do so.
(2) If the data is OK, use FS or AS to
Add Images to Sources.
