I am trying to export my tree without living people to Ancestry.
I must be missing something!
Why is there not a tick box in the 'EXPORT GEDCOM FILE' 'Exclude' section that you tick to exclude living people.
Also nobody mentions which file format to use.
Yes it's Gedcom, but is it ANSI, Unicode, etc.

The the export option, you select the people to include, simply select everyone who does not have the living flag set using the add using query, if you really want to give ancestry all your research, personally I keep my uploaded file to the minimum and strip all sources, media, notes and any events other than BMD and Census.
ANSI the the normal format to use. See
http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:export
and

for other hints.
Also you might like to look at the Clean Living People plugin if you have V5

You may well not wish to trust them, but Ancestry says, apropos marking a tree as 'Public', that 'Information about living people is automatically hidden from others and is NOT included in our search index.' So it's not strictly necessary to perform an export - you could just import your entire GEDCOM into Ancestry.

Many tanks.
I have exported a gedcom file and run Clean Living People on it. I would also like to remove ALL media records before putting on Ancestry. Is there an easy way of doing this.[grin]

Yes, in the File > Import/Export > Export > GEDCOM File there are options to Exclude any types of record.

On the 8th December I successfully exported a GEDCOM to Ancestry. Due to personal reasons I had to delete it today. However I cannot re-upload my tree.
I have read all this help on exporting to Ancestry but still have a problem. I have tried exporting with facts etc removed, then cleaning living people plug in and have also tried the split tree aid. I have an issue in that Ancestry insists on showing almost everyone as living next to their death date which makes the whole tree private which is not what I require. Ancestry blame the content of my GEDCOM file as not being good enough.
I have not been able to find detailed descriptions of what the cleaning living people options actually do except that if I don't select 'living flags' then nothing gets cleaned.
Any help would be appreciated.
