Could someone please explain, in simple terms, the steps involved in exporting a FH file to a Legacy user.

FH uses a .ged file format. I expect Legacy will be able to import that with no intermediate conversion.
(Though why you would want to use Legacy instead of FH beats me!)

As Gerry says a FH .ged file can be imported directly by legacy, if you have a lot of linked subsections of photographs you can use the FHC converter to change the images to links Legacy can understand. If you only link to whole images this is not required.

I don't plan to use Legacy - I want to export a file to a Legacy user but I cannot find any straightforward, easy to understand instruction on how to do so.
I am told that on Legacy you click on 'File' and there in the drop-down menu is 'Export to' with another drop down menu for 'Gedcom' - where is such a facility on FH please?

You don't need to export a FH file it is already in a format Legacy can read, simply send your contact your .ged file.

As Jane says, there is no export facility in FH. This is because FH uses the gedcom file as it's 'database'. However you have to be aware that when you send your file to your fellow researcher you are sending them EVERYTHING. If you have any private data/notes or living indidivuals who don't want their data to be shared then you have to remove it. The simplest way is to use the Res Privita program available in the download section of this website (in the Gedcom group).
Alternatively you can use the Split Tree Helper Function (STHF) to remove the restricted information. STHF is available from the file menu. NOTE: You MUST copy your Gedcom file before using the STHF as it can potentially delete data from your live file and there is no undo facility.
To use the STHF, make a copy of your gedcom by saving it under a new name (File->Save As), selecting the STHF and using a query to select the individuals you want to delete (or not delete). It's a good idea to also delete FH's extensions (flags and named lists) so that your Legacy user doesn't get too many errors/warnings when they import. You can then send this newly named gedcom file to your fellow researcher.
PS. You can vote for an export facility that can strip private information in the wish list. See item 297 'Ability to export selected records to a Gedcom' or search for 'export'.

Many thanks for your help. I had already split the tree in readiness but thanks for mentioning it anyway.
