* V5 Project Transfer

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

V5 Project Transfer

Post by gesmith » 31 Mar 2023 18:01

How do I transfer the whole of my project to my daughter in Australia? Does she need to have FH on her computer?
Thanks for any help,
Geoff

Welcome to the FHUG Geoff.

If you want to transfer the whole Project in its FH form then yes your daughter needs FH on her PC.
However, she cannot purchase FH V5 as it was superseded by FH V7 years ago.
FH V5 and FH V7 and not completely compatible. You can transfer from FH V5 to FH V7 but not in the reverse direction.
You may also have difficulty discussing the Project as the commands have moved on from FH V5 to FH V7.
So if you really want to go down that path then I suggest you upgrade to FH V7.

Alternatively, you can export almost all your Project data via GEDCOM plus Media files and your daughter could import that into almost any genealogy product and many of them are free. Also, you could upload the GEDCOM (without Media files) to an online family tree using such as Ancestry, FindMyPast, ZoomPast, etc, which is also free. Then your daughter can access the same family tree by sharing your online account.

Which of those options sound most attractive?
