Here is the GEDCOM Section for Joan BONNER ,

that is missing photos in the photo section that should be there. I am not fluent in gedcomese,

I have marked the section near the end where the photos seem to appear (but not in my TNG tree)

after 3 different imports RM, FH, and FTM gedcoms.

This is the appropriate forum for discussing the export of FH to other products such as TNG, including the necessary settings in both products.

From your sample of GEDCOM, it seems you have set the Export Gedcom File plugin option for Multimedia Preference to use Media Records instead of Local Media. Media Records do not support some of the TNG features. So I suggest you change to use the recommended default setting (PART~LMO) Part Frames in Export Folder & Local Media Full File Paths. That may solve many of the Media problems you have been reporting.

If some Media images are still missing then try:
(ALL~LMO) Part & Full in Export Folder & Local Media Full File Paths
or
(FULL~LMO) Full Frames in Export Folder & Local Media Full File Paths

One thing I have spotted in your GEDCOM sample that is unusual is near the end it has 1 _PHOTO @M704@
The _PHOTO tag is used by FTM so why does it appear in that GEDCOM sample?
What is that GEDCOM? Is it an export from FTM? Is it the FH Project GEDCOM? Is it the export destined for TNG?

The gedcom building path took this form:

1. ANC tree imported into RM
2. RM tree imported into FH
3. FH gedcom bound for TNG (with the changes you suggested before in the export plugin settings).

I followed the suggest KBs for each import/export.

Jeff, I have to admit to being a little unclear about exactly what process you are following.

1. You have mentioned FTM2019 several times in this thread but do not seem to use its export GEDCOM capability to create the FH Project. You seem to migrate Ancestry to RootsMagic and then directly import RootsMagic into FH.
   Please explain why you do not migrate straight from FTM2019 into FH avoiding RootsMagic altogether.
2. Do you go through the whole process of migrating Ancestry to RootsMagic to FH to TNG every time?
   If so, I suggest you stop doing that because every time you migrate Ancestry to RootsMagic to FH the FH Project will need an extensive clean-up before being suitable for export to TNG. Just work with one clean FH Project until you understand the process of migrating to TNG.
3. I believe only FTM2019 uses the _PHOTO tag so it is strange that it appears in the GEDCOM sample you posted.
   Please explain what process created that GEDCOM sample. e.g. Was it the Export Gedcom File plugin or something else?
4. Did you try the Multimedia Preference setting (PART~LMO) that I suggested and did it improve anything?
   It may be necessary to use the Empty Export Folder button in the plugin so that any 'old' Media files are removed before using a different Multimedia Preference setting.

It would really help us understand your process of migrating from FTM/Ancestry to TNG if you could explain each step in more detail and when you repeat each step.

I initially ran it this way with the same problems
FTM gedcom ==> FH ===> TNG (with the export plugin on default for TNG).

I have been trying various solutions.... is what you are seeing in all this...
with the goal of getting a gedcom;
that imports into TNG and shows all the media and medialinks correctly.

I will try a straight-forward FTM gedom export to FH import again.

Also Yes, I used the setting you suggested: Multimedia Preference setting (PART~LMO)
That had a different effect on the outcome in TNG,
that the citation medialinks showed up ,
yet Joan Bonner medialinks still were not populated.
As well, when I generated the thumbnails in TNG all the medialinks dissapeared.

I think you are saying that Multimedia Preference setting (PART~LMO) was an improvement as more Media showed up.
However, that setting may omit some full frame Media images which might explain the missing Media links.
So try the setting (ALL~LMO) Part & Full in Export Folder & Local Media Full File Paths.

I also suggest you don't keep trying different processes as that is like chasing a moving target.
Just focus on the FH export to TNG import until it works satisfactorily.

It might be worth taking a step back and reviewing exactly what it is you are trying to achieve.

From your post above, and from what you have posted on the TNG forums, it appears to are exporting from Ancestry into Roots Magic, then exporting from that into Family Historian, and then exporting from that into TNG. You also mentioned that you are having the same problems in TNG if you import there from FTM2019, and if you export from Ancestry to Roots Magic to TNG.

It might help if we can understand what your final objective is. Is it to have multiple trees on different platforms which you want to import/export to each other? Are you just trying to get your Ancestry tree into TNG? Do you want to have a tree on a desktop application like Family Historian which you sync to TNG? If you do want to sync between applications regularly, which ones and how often? What do you see your workflow as being?

You'll have recognised by now that getting any two applications to talk to each other successfully can be a trial. Trying to sync multiple products in a chain on a regular basis is, in my opinion, not likely to be an achievable aim.

I second what Adrian has said. What are your objectives? What is your ideal workflow?

I am simply trying to get my Ancestry tree on to TNG
by any means necessary.

To maintain my database wheather RM or FH or FTM2019
has been the confusion for me.

If I use FH to maintain my data, I need to get the data correctly there first
and exported to TNG correctly before it is of any use to me.

I think you still need to give us a bit more detail please, so we can help.

Once your tree is off Ancestry, and on TNG, how will you maintain it? Will you do that directly on TNG, or will you carry on updating it in Ancestry and want to export it regularly to TNG?

Or maybe you want to get your tree onto a desktop application (Family Historian, Roots Magic, whatever - but only ONE of them!), do your research updates in that application, and update to TNG regularly?

You have two things to solve - what is your immediate requirement (seems to be getting your tree from Ancestry and onto TNG), and what is your future and ongoing requirement - where will you be doing your work and what syncs do you want in place?

seem like the ones that link directly to Ancestry.

2. I like the features of FH and the idea of the export plugin,
but only a gedcom import from FTM
or
a rootsmagic tree import/or gedcom
is possible (is why I try those routes before).

3. Ancestry==>FTM==>gedcom==>TNG (using Robin's gedcom converter) hasnt worked either.

I dont know if using TNG's ver. 14 and the new push to a higher PHP has anything to do with it or no.

I am not sure if I am adding anything useful to what youasked. I hope so.

You can maintain your master data in FH and synchronise it with a tree in Ancestry if you have a licence for RootsMagic 7 or 8. See: Synchronizing Your Tree With Ancestry to Exploit Hints

So the problem to be solved then becomes: how to upload to TNG from FH.

this is impractical for larger trees that change frequently.

Automatic synchronisation with Ancestry is not offered in ƒh, so the only option available to us is to use an alternative application as an intermediate, and upload from there. RootsMagic is the recommended product, with the optimum combination of compatibility with ƒh.

To clarify - the Ancestry sync process is designed for a very specific case. A master tree maintained solely in FH, with an abstract of the tree synced to Ancestry via RM.

This is primarily for supporting Ancestry hints, but is not suitable for sucking a pre-existing detailed tree out of Ancestry for use in FH.

Tho, drooling at the thought of sucking the life out of my ANC tree,
and giving it a good scrubing in FH and blast it off into TNG

So via the method of RM tree import to FH (after syncing ANC to RM), doesnt do much good?

I guess if I can get most of my mediatypes and such into TNG, I could manual in TNG
adjust it and export it into FH to maintain it from there?

I am getting maybe 20% of my gedcom with media/medialinks

and photos/associated medialinks appearing in TNG.
 

On the other hand her mother has all showing in the correct place 100% complete.

I have done imports of :

FTM2019 (Gedcom)===>TNG

ANC===>RM (Gedcom)===>TNG

ANC===>RM (Tree)===>FH (Gedom w/plugin for TNG)===>TNG

all with the same results.

 Each time I have prepped before importing a gedcom to TNG by:

1. utilities =>optimize/backup all tables

2. setup =>created tables

3. utilities=>restore all tables

EXCEPT

address, children, citation, families, events, media, medialinks, notes, notelinks, people and repositories

Hi I use TNG for about 6 years-- I have used with FTM for more then half of those year --about 2 years with RM and the past month or so with FH. I notice there were different file paths on some of your media so that might be part of your reason. The 2nd reason why you upload a GEDCOM it doesn't not really replace all data. I do not know if there is an official thing on what is and is not replaced. Media and event links for example. In past when I had issued with media/events I basically dropped ROWS of most of the tables (make sure you DO NOT drop or alter the USER table or you will not be able to login without hacking you website). If you are not using albums you should be okay with those. If you drop media, you will have to recreate thumbnail paths: You might try remove all rows (NOT THE TABLES themselves): tng_medialinks, tng_places, tng_sources, tng_citations, tng_events. Then do a fresh GEDCOM Import (would also suggest you put TNG in Maint. Mode when you do this. In order to remove the table rows you can do this usually by going to phpadmin of your Cpnael of your hostsite.

you mentioned the media of your mother appears okay. I would look at the files paths of her media. Also, I am assuming the media for her is not recent like others. Is the majority of the media for the other 80% much newer ? (or has has updates to links recently)

I am relatively new to FH (about 2 months now). I have used TNG ver 11 thru 14.
I have used with FTM, RM and FH.

Curious if you got the Media issue resolved.
One thing I would compare is FH, TNG, and the physical media directory on your site.
The File counts should be very close (if your thumb counts are same directory you might have to adjust for that).
(FTP client should give you some files counts)

Also compare FH vs Admin of TNG .
There are some other possible issues depending changes. The Medialinks and /or Event tables could be out of whack depending on past updates. A drastic fix would be to delete the tree / create a new tree and import. I almost always use replace vs match when importing Gedcom. If the media items closely agree with file counts then it is probably related to media and events links tables not being update or updated correctly. This could include if you changed trees ID for example.
