* Import from TMG froze during Citation import

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Import from TMG froze during Citation import

Post by ConHorne »

I just downloaded the trial from V7 and started an import from TMG. It froze during Source Citations 5191/7657.

Is there anyway for me to figure out which one that is so I can review and "fix" it?

The import is frozen and not responding and I hesitate to kill it directly.

Leave it a while, but you may have no option but to end the FH task via the Task Manager.
It is quite rare for FH to hang like that.
I'm not sure how you would find the 5191st out of 7657 Source Citations in TMG.
Maybe, review the TMG Tools > Master Source List and inspect Source # 5191 or perhaps 5192?
Do the Source # go up to 7657?

See the FHUG Knowledge Base Importing to Family Historian and check the Import from The Master Genealogist (TMG) section that has some tips such as merging a blank TMG and ensuring TMG is not running.

I notice your Profile says FH V6.2, so did you ever import from TMG into FH V6.2?
Was that successful?

Only installed the newest version today. I have looked at FH but never tried it out until today.

I have 554 Sources but I have no idea which citation would be 5191. Obviously most of my sources have multiple citations.

OK, please update your Profile to say Family Historian V7.
Click your username, navigate to Edit profile, select Family Historian V7, then scroll down to SUBMIT.

Try the tips I suggested.

If still no success then you may have to contact Calico Pie for assistance.

How do I contact Calico Pie?

Within FH, click Help on the main menu and then Technical Support...

Did you try the tip of merging a blank TMG project with your main project using File > Merge Projects?

There are several TMG validation options in the File > Maintenance commands ~ have you tried those?

I have done all of the maintenance. Why on earth should I merge a blank project with my current one?

That makes absolutely zero sense. Multiple programs have no programs reading my database except this one.

I am only repeating a Tip from the advice I referred to earlier, that somebody found resolved a problem with Citations.

All software is different. So just because other products import a TMG project satisfactorily does not guarantee that all products will do so. It may be that FH is trying to be more thorough in what it imports than other products, and thus interrogating data structures that other products don't touch.

Anyway, Calico Pie should be able to resolve the problem.
