Good morning,
First time user coming from TMG here. With FH7 I finally made the switch and I am very happy with the program so far. I do have one problem though. I have done a few imports from my TMG project, and I've spent the last couple of days auditing the data. Everything seems to be working fine so far with the exception of repository links. FH7 will randomly link (at least I have found no pattern) repositories to sources. I've been checking against my old project, and while most repository links are fine, there are quite a few sources that have totally wrong repositories linked to them. I only have about 1400 sources in my project, so it is not a big deal to go through them all and relink the correct repositories where appropriate, but I am scared that this "linking-problem" may exist in other parts of the database as well, such as source links or citations, potentially compromising data integrity. I have over 70,000 citations, so that would be a problem. Thankfully, I have not found any so far and the problem only seems to be with repositories. Have any other TMG people had similar problems? And if so is this a known problem? I will be happy to provide support with any screenshots from the source records from TMG and FH7 showing different links after import.

Did you discover the Knowledge Base advice for Importing to Family Historian that has a section dedicated to TMG?

Apart from the known problem of the first Source record losing its Repository, I'm not aware of any TMG migrants reporting other upset Repository links, nor any other link problems.

If it is a significant problem perhaps it should be investigated by Calico Pie before you mend the links.

Thank you for the welcome and help. Yes, I read through every knowledge base article I could find and also did searches on this forum. I also examined the log files, as suggested. No indication or error anywhere, in fact everything went fabulously well during the import. It was only when I started auditing the imported data by hand that I noticed it. It only stood out because the repositories where obviously wrong, like a clerk-recorder linked to a personal interview source and such. It seems like most the links are to sources that would not have repositories to begin with. So when I interview someone I add their interview as a source, but no repository. FH7 seems to have populated quite a few of these.

Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to reply, and I will indeed investigate a little further and then post a ticket with Calico Pie. The repository links is not a problem, I can hand fix those. The concern is that a similar problem may surface in source citations, which would be a much bigger problem.

Are you saying that some Source records, such as the Interview source you mentioned, had no associated Repository record in TMG but do now have a Repository record attached?

Can you attach a screenshot of the same data in TMG and in FH to illustrate the point?

My apologies, it looks like it may indeed have been a problem on my side. I did take screenshots of one record that has exactly the problem I described, but the other ones, did in fact have the wrong repository linked in my original TMG database. So now I am inclined to think it may be entirely my fault. I removed them in TMG and reimported into FH7 and those records did now indeed import correctly. I have attached the screenshots I took originally and how this particular record ended up the way it did I don't know, but considering the rest do in fact look to be my own mistakes, I am inclined to think that this particular one might be as well. I will keep my eyes open as I continue to audit the imported data, but for now I ascribe this to user error and apologize for wasting your time!
