V7 TMG Import Issues
How can I get FH to honour TMG media attached to a citation? Source media ok but no citation media.
Also my citation reference values go to where within. I can't find an explanation for that field.
Thanks
Alan

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
Alan, can you give a few more details.
Is this your first import from TMG or are you familiar with the File > Project Window > New Project process?
If you have used this before did Citation Media import before or not?
Have you checked the Source Citation window Media tab?
See Importing to Family Historian under Import from The Master Genealogist (TMG) which says that "Every link from a Place, Citation, or Repository to its Media is omitted" but that is for FH V6.
The Where Within Source field is a standard GEDCOM field that identifies exactly where in the Source document the associated details can be found.

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
These are my initial tests with TMG import into v7. I dabbled with v6 but didn't get serious. I cant compare back to previous imports.
I have thousands of media files linked to citations in TMG but none have migrated as far as I can see. I just checked the odd place media file I have and they haven't come across either.
I have checked the source citation media window and all those sampled are empty. Same for the media view on the places.
On creating the new project I chose to copy media files. I am just running a new import just leaving links to my existing media directories. I will update if that works any differently.

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
Hopefully, some regular TMG migrants should be able to clarify what happens to Citation & Place Media.
Please check whether the Media exist in the Media Window or the Media tab of the Records Window.
i.e. Has the Media migrated and it is just the links to the Citations and Places that are missing?
Are you using the Direct Import from TMG method and not importing a GEDCOM file I hope.
If there is no resolution to your problem, report it to Calcio Pie at http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php.

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
Mike
Funnily I had just checked what you asked.
The media has migrated and there are media records for all my media. There just aren't any links to the citations or the places. I have proved I can manually link them but that's of little comfort.
It may be a post import batch job could fix my issue as the contents of my reference field which was copied to the where within field on the citation is also the name of the media file. It wouldn't fix the place media but I haven't got too many of those.
I can confirm I am using the TMG Import. I would tried GEDCOM imports in the past and that's a nightmare.
I am sure this is a simple bug that can be fixed. FH must be reading the links to copy the media so it just needs code checking for the creation of the links.

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
FH is importing the TMG Exhibit records as FH Media records with links to the actual Media files.
That has no impact on the Citation or Place links to Media records.
Can any TMG migrants who read this please help

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
I have been doing further testing to see if I can find any root cause. I had installed V7 over the top of v6 initially. I have now uninstalled and restarted from scratch and the same issues still exist, i.e. no place or citation media linked in even though the media records have been created.
I have repeated the test with an internal image linked to a citation and the same issue occurs.
I have also found:
- a Principal 2 person who has been given a role, e.g. Wife on a Census, gets added twice as a witness in the FH imported Census fact - as P2 and Wife, not ideal as it would involve lots of tidy up to resolve. I did a test of moving a wife to Witness instead of P2 then it correctly comes in as a single entry on the Census.

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
Sorry, but can we stick to one issue at time otherwise it can become an exponential explosion.
You say you repeated the test with an internal image linked to a citation and the same issue occurs.
I'm not sure what you mean by an internal image nor what same issue occurs?
Do you mean that in FH you have linked a Media record to a Citation but now cannot see the Media item in the Citation?

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
TMG supports internal images and external images.
I use external images. However just in case the issue of media records not being linked was specific to one type of image only, then I tested both. The original issue as reported (image records not linked to citation or places) occurs with both image types in TMG.

Re: V7 TMG Import Issues
This can only be a bug and therefore I have raised a trouble ticket with Calico. I will post their response here once received.
