GedSite and Family Historian

Post by NigelBrown »

I am struggling with a problem in GedSite (purchased a few days ago) not implementing Fact Note content from Family Historian. I cannot see the option to include it in the Narrative content in either the GedSite program or the Export Gedcom File plugin. For me, the Narrative content is essential to the flow and content of what is output. See the attached image, where the sentence is printed but not the Note. I already have a website hosted by the Guild of One-Name studies courtesy of the FH Publish/Create a Website function which does this perfectly well. I have thousands of Fact Notes that are essential to the content of my web site. I hope I am explaining myself. I don't know if I am missing something in GedSite or FH. The "exception that proves the rule" is that long ago I created a Custom 'Biography' Fact where the Sentence Template is simply "<para>{note}" and this works perfectly, that is, the Fact Note is exported to GedSite, every time. I guess the clue is here but I can't see it. Can anyone help please...

You have virtually answered your own question.
The Biography fact works because its Sentence Template has the {note} code to include the fact Note text.
Does the Military Service fact have the {note} code in its Sentence Template anywhere?

Hi Nigel!
Nice to see someone else using Family Historian with GEDSITE.
I don't seem to have any issues with this, and for any facts I have included which have info in the Note field they have just come through to my website. It doesn't appear that it has to be included in the sentence at all. (Unless I am misunderstanding what you want to happen).

So, here is the Burial Fact for my father:

I want the link to be clickable on my website, so include the HTML markup codes.
Then you can go to my website to see the result:

Apart from basic Facts I normally strip most out before creating my pages, so had to look hard to find an example. :D
Cheers

I think Nigel is working with Narrative style and Sentence Templates as described by his Biography fact.

Some things to check:

Are you using FH or GedSite Sentence Templates in GedSite?

If you are using GedSite sentences then:
Is the Military Service Fact appearing at all on the website generated by GedSite? If it is (eg say, just the Date and Place) then you need to check the Tag sentence in GedSite to make sure it includes [M] in the sentence structure. If it does not, then you need to ensure that the Military Service tag is selected in both the Data / Tags list and in one of the Person Entry Tag Filters.

I believe this is just going to be a settings issue somewhere in your configuration - I have a number of FH Facts / GedSite Tags for which I just use the Fact Note and the date - these are all handled and output perfectly. Once you have confirmed the above we can move on to some of the other possibilities.

Thank you all for your responses/suggestions. The answer was, as Mike pointed out, staring me in the face, a missing {note} in the Fact template. I am not new to creating web sites; I have 4 others that I have coded from scratch in html/css, so I think perhaps I need to be more patient with GedSite and try to learn how to use it ...

I to use Gedsite and fh, having previously used Second site with TMG.
John Cardinal is infinitely patient with me and you can usefully report any problems and read other people's questions and John's answers on Google groups.

My website wont help you as I put only basic BMD and occupation on line.
But I also use Gedsite to pass on complete family information to other researchers in the family - to avoid sending Gedcoms.
