Last edited date
I am migrating from TMG to FH. And then sending a GedCom to GedSite to make a website.
Last edited date - this is a field in TMG. And I believe it is a GedCom field.
Is this field imported into FH from TMG? If not, why not?
I looked in help and could find a function for last edited date, but couldn't find where the date was located.
When I create a GedCom via a plug-in written by Mike Tate the last edited date is filled in as the date the FH database was created. It's very strange, but not every record has a last-edited date, about 2/3 of them do, the rest have no date. Also I'm not completely sure, but I think when I updated a record in FH and then created a GedCom a there was not a new last edited date.
Thanks -

Re: Last edited date
The field you are talking about is the Last Changed Date, which can be seen on the Records Window if you have not changed the columns, it is maintained automatically. I would expect if you imported from TMG that the field would have been set to the day you imported the data as from FH's point of view the record was added on that date.

Re: Last edited date
The field in the Records Window is actually called Updated.
FH V6.2.4 does NOT import the Last edited field from TMG (though perhaps it should) and the Updated entry is left blank.
Whenever, any record in FH is edited, then the Updated field will take the date & time of that change.
The latest Updated field value is shown in the File > Project Window against each Project under Last Updated, but if all Updated fields are blank then it shows the Gedcom file Modified Date.
My Export Gedcom File Plugin simply copies whatever Updated (CHAN tag) fields exist in the Gedcom.
If there none, and you open that exported Gedcom in FH then the File > Project Window > Last Update date will be its creation/modified date as explained above.
Linda, where are you looking to see about 2/3 of the records have a last updated date?

Re: Last edited date
Jane and Michael -
Thanks for the info about where the last edited date/last changed date/updated field is. Funny, I never noticed it there before.....
Yes, I do believe this date should be imported from TMG. It is an important piece of information and it would be better if it weren't lost.
When I look at the updated field in the records window I see the updated field filled in with the date/time of the creation of the FH database. This happens whether I modify the record or not. However, maybe about a third of these records have no updated date. That seems strange to me - a field sometimes filled in. I could find no pattern to this. I have 1970 individuals in my file (for testing) - maybe 1/4 to 1/3 don't have a date
I first noticed this problem when I looked at the online site made by GedSite. I looked at the GedCom coming from FH and saw it there. And now I can look at the records window and see missing data.
I had thought that changes were not reflected in a changed date - I just changed some data, redid a GedCom & today's date is showing up in GedSite. I must have mis-tested before.
If there is no date in the Updated field then no date is passed into the GedCom for creation of GedSite.
I would really like it if the last edited date could be imported from TMG.
I hope my explanations are clear.
Thanks for the help

Re: Last edited date
Your explanation is very clear.
I only have an expired trial copy of TMG and importing the sample project to FH just now left all Updated fields blank.
Jane's suggestion is reasonable that all Updated fields should take the import date-time stamp.
But it seems that FH is inconsistent. It certainly should use the same rule for every Updated field.
It will correct itself over time as you update each record.
The best I can suggest is to use how_to:about#problem_reporting|> Problem Reporting to report your findings to Calico Pie and request the TMG Last updated value be imported.

Mike -
Aha - I found out where the updated date comes from - if I run the plugin you wrote called 'Move Citation Text Fields' then the date is updated.
Whew, glad to find that question. Perhaps there could be an option - to change the updated field or not.....
I have written a ticket to calico pie for changing the direct import into FH from TMG about the last updated date.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Last edited date
Ah! So initially all the Updated fields are blank as imported from TMG.
If any FH record is changed in any way, whether by hand or by Plugin, then its Updated time-stamp is set.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent that, which is probably reasonable, otherwise there could be confusion about whether a record has been changed or not.
BTW: The Set Missing Updated Timestamps Plugin will set any missing values to the time it is run, which could be used to implement Jane's assumption that all new imports are set to the import time.

Re: Last edited date
FH v5.0.11 used to set the last update date to the date of import of data from TMG to FH. As of v6.0.1 it has left it blank.
I reported this to Calico Pie in Jan 2015, but hope you have better luck - I didn't even get bug # response from them.

I have a ticket number #667891
But I asked for the last edited date to be transferred, not the date the FH file was created.

Re: Last edited date
Yes, I should have been more explicit - I too complained that TMG had a perfectly good 'last update' date and they should be transferring that across on import - so we're on the same page. Good luck with your bug report!
