* Gedcom import errors

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Mike I think the first exmple in the TMG_refugee post is very similar in that it is using a subset of the tags. In the few files I have in RM I don't think I have any source which is not Free-form.

Following on the comment made by AdrianBruce the basic part of an RM source consists of the three items: Footnote (TITL), Short Footnote (non standard) and Bibliography (non standard) of which only one is exported if you exclude RM specific items. These items are put together from the instructions contained within the template - basically a data entry form with the fields used to construct these three items. Once you start writing your own Templates, perfectly possible within RM, then you can name the fields, insert brief instructions into the fields and add longer help text attached to the fields and decide how the fields will be put together. I rather think this means that attempting to deconstruct these basic sources is near enough impossible without a detailed knowledge of the background template.

Just as an example the following is a source using a standard template for the 1881 England and Wales census (online images). Some of the missing bits would be filled in from a citation

0 @S16@ SOUR
1 ABBR 1881 Census
1 TITL RG11/2387/13/19/199, England & Wales, Chard, Somerset, ; digital image, T
2 CONC NA, FindMyPast (Unknown : accessed ).
1 _SUBQ RG11/2387/13/19/199, England & Wales, Chard, Somerset, .
1 _BIBL England & Wales, RG11/2387/13/19/199. Digital image. TNA. FindMyPas
2 CONC t. Unknown : .
1 TEXT A Transcription
1 NOTE Notes
1 _TMPLT
2 TID 35
2 FIELD
3 NAME CensusID
3 VALUE RG11/2387/13/19/199
2 FIELD
3 NAME Jurisdiction
3 VALUE England & Wales
2 FIELD
3 NAME CivilDivision
3 VALUE Chard, Somerset
2 FIELD
3 NAME ItemType
3 VALUE digital image
2 FIELD
3 NAME Owner
3 VALUE TNA
2 FIELD
3 NAME WebSite
3 VALUE FindMyPast
2 FIELD
3 NAME URL
3 VALUE Unknown

I know this is a bit rough and ready but I would find it hard to extract the individual details from that TITL value.
