* Roots Magic to Family Historian

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Roots Magic to Family Historian

Post by WeefordHoldcroft's » 17 Apr 2015 17:48

I have tried to export from Roots Magic 7 to Family Historian 6. It appears FH 6 does not recogise the Roots magic File .rmgs. So I tried Gedcom, great but... most of my links to documents are now missing. I can only add them one at a time. What am I doing Wrong...

Welcome to the FHUG.
Did you check the Knowledge Base advice on importing from Roots Magic and Understanding Projects?

The trick is to use Tools > External File Links and identify where FH expects to find the Media files.
If the Gedcom file is in same folder as root folder of Media files then FH should import them, as explained in the Help identified in Understanding Projects.

Is there a chance that Family Historian will be able to access Roots Magic 7 in a future release? The version of Roots Magic that the program accesses currently is way out of date.

Welcome to the FHUG Joyce.
I think it unlikely that FH will support direct import from Roots Magic 7.
Don't hold your breath!
See how_to:import_from_roots_magic|> Import from Roots Magic (RM) for advice about using GEDCOM instead. I think it does a reasonable job, but will no doubt need some tidying up in FH.
