* imprt FTM mac and old TMG?

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

imprt FTM mac and old TMG?

Post by peach12345 » 24 Mar 2015 15:30

Hmm over the past 2 years I've been using FTM (mac) and previous to that TMG (with Godparents). I now would like to merge/update both to FH v6 (using VM). I've imported gedcom for ftm and tmg then merged both also but haven't got the best results with any 3 versions!.... has anyone got the best option or advice?

Thanking you in advance
Best regards
Peach

To import from TMG you should the Import TMG Project method described in how_to:import_from_tmg|> Import from The Master Genealogist (TMG) which has been extensively improved in FH V6.0.4. There are also lots of links to other advice and ongoing discussion threads. It should work MUCH better than a GEDCOM file.

To import from FTM have a look at how_to:import_from_family_tree_maker|> Import from Family Tree Maker (FTM).

There also is an ongoing discussion and article about exchanging data between FH and FTM/Ancestry.
See the Importing and Exporting threads with toptics starting Ancestry, FTM, FH and workflow.
See the how_to:exchanging_data_with_ancestry_ftm|> Exchanging Data with Ancestry and FTM.

Do NOT attempt to Merge Projects until you have cleaned up both imports separately.
There is advice and Plugins and these Forums that will help you as necessary.

Many thanks for this, very much appreciated. It looks as though some time to prepare prior to importing is a major factor. I will do some bed-time reading!
