TMG Citation Details

Just finished a direct import from TMG 9.02 to FH 6.0.1. I used citation details for the census with || separating the data. It came across as a note with the || still present. Any way to parse the note to the appropriate census fields?

@Dick

Could you give a real example of the TMG citation detail you are talking about and where you expect the various elements to be posted in FH?

It will probably need a custom Plugin to perform the changes.
If you can be very precise about the Note format and where you want the data to be stored, then a kindly FHUG member may write the Plugin for you.

Thnaks for the prompt replies. However, I have a feeling that I need to do a little more thinking and playing around before I tie up some kind soul. The text I am looking at, in the Text from Source field is:

Robert J. Webb||1910 US Census||1171||9A||227||206||

where the items are: Name of head of household||town or township||ED number||sheet number||dwelling number||family number Note the where there is a |||| it is a blank field.

this applies to instances where the census source is from USA 1850-1930. The content for the UK and earlier USA is different. I not sure where the informnation should go within FH. Perhaps it just stays within the Text from Source field but with modifiers to clarify what the numbers and text mean. I'd do it manually except that I have around 3500 of them.

Where those details should go is something of a personal choice.

First of all, to group them together, the Type field can be set to Census Record.

Some users put most of those details in the Title using a format such as:
1910 US 1171 9A 227 206 WEBB, Robert J
Then if the Source records are sorted by Title the nearby Census entries come together.

Often the reference numbers are put in the Publication Information field.

There would be no harm in keeping them in the Text From Source field.
There is a Search and Replace Plugin, which in its advanced LUA Pattern Mode could replace:
Robert J. Webb||1910 US Census||1171||9A||227||206||
with say:
Head: Robert J. Webb
Year: 1910 US Census
ED No: 1171
Sheet: 9A
Dwelling: 227
Family: 206

or whatever you want.

However, I would advise you look at ancestralsources:index|> Ancestral Sources that allows Census and BMD Events to be conveniently captured into FH.
AS supports a variety of data styles, but it would be more consistent if you chose the AS style first, then adapted your TMG data to match.

Thanks Mike for the help. I am already looking at Ancestral Sources.

Have a great weekend.
