Hello,
I've just come to FH from TMG by way of Legacy. I like FH so far but am having trouble. I want to bring in some files I downloaded from Ancestry.com and imported into a separate FH file. When I started the import, I got to the matrix that showed the comparison of current and new data but didn't see any place to accept or not accept individuals even though the instructions seemed to talk about a check box. So, I went ahead and merged and brought in a lot of people. It seemed some of them merged ok but I also got some duplicate people with the exact same data. When I looked at the ancestry/descendant chart, I found that some wives and husbands were shown twice with the the same children also listed twice and lots of lines connecting all the duplicates. Then I tried merging individuals in FH. When I merged a wife, for example, she then had only one id number but still showed up twice.
Now, I've gone back to the original backup file I had beforehand but I do want to import data rather than entering every bit individually. Here are some questions.
Is there a way to import and merge with more quality control?
Why did the chart show two people even though they had the same id number?
Is there any editing that can be done in the chart view to correct the duplicate problems shown by the curvy connectors?
Are there any tutorials or manuals beyond the basic help screens and introductory videos?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Steve

Re: importing FH project and merging duplicates
Have a look at glossary:merge_compare_files|> Merge Compare Files.
Does that answer you questions?
Ensure you have two well validated and checked Projects/GEDCOM before you start.
Make sure you have good backups of both Projects/GEDCOM in case things go awry.
In the Merge dialogue make sure you examine all the tabs for Individuals, Families, Sources, etc
