* TMG to FH - Vista Problems

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

TMG to FH - Vista Problems

Post by jcsturgis » 01 Oct 2014 06:01

I am currently trying to evaluate FH as an alternative to TMG, but am unable to try the direct import (from TMG files) as I'm using Vista. Are there any plans to rectify this? I'd hate to have to discount FH (which looks like a really good alternative) because I can't transfer my data. :o

As advised in how_to:import_from_tmg|> Import from The Master Genealogist (TMG) have you E-mailed the problem to Family Historian support at Calico Pie Limited?

Assuming the FH trial database works OK on Vista, and it is just the direct import that does not work, in which case there could be some "quirky" difference between Vista/Win7, definitely do as Mike says. Have you tried a GEDCOM import? (Although the direct import is generally favoured). Are you sure you have the latest FH version 5.0.11

Jim, it is v5.0.11 that is the problem. The earlier v5.0.0 to v5.0.9 all supported direct TMG import on Vista.
