App for Android-based Tablet
I have an 8" android tablet and I use the apps associated with my installed windows programs: Rootsmagic-to-go and Families (linked to Legacy). One of the reasons why I am so interested in moving my data from Family Historian to other software is to enable this use.

Re: App for Window-based Tablet
If you are already using Families, why don't you use GedFamilies which links directly to FH?

A simple answer: because I had not heard of it. I have just checked it out on the Play Store and unfortunately got the message 'Your device is not compatible with this version' I am assuming that the incompatibility is due to my Android version.Jane wrote:If you are already using Families, why don't you use GedFamilies which links directly to FH?

Re: App for Window-based Tablet
I will shortly buy an android tablet. I have seen posts for possible apps so my FH data can be viewed although the main data will remain on my Windows PC. Can you suggest which is currently the best android app and whether it fits well with FH including possibly the photos too?

The how_to:family_historian_on_imac_ipad_android_etc|> Family Historian on Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, etc seems to suggest that GedFamilies is probably the best ... unless anyone can better that?

Re: App for Android-based Tablet
GedFamilies does not appear to be compatible with the Android 4.4.4. (on a Nexus). My solution is to use Rootsmagic for Android (with Rootsmagic Essentials to get the data across) holding the data file on Dropbox makes the process a dream. If GedFamiliies worked I would have to use GedFamilies Sync to move the data from FH to my Android device.
So the real question is, can we expect to see a FH Android app or a link with GedFamilies that works?

Re: App for Android-based Tablet
Don't hold your breath for FH on Android or iPad, and GedFamilies is nothing to do with FH.
You may be interested in the Export Gedcom File Plugin for Roots Magic and GedFamilies and any other program.
This has special options for the Roots Magic 6 dialect of GEDCOM because it does not handle certain items very well.
See the Plugin Help & Advice at plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:export_gedcom_file|> Export Gedcom File and in particular plugins:help:export_gedcom_file:output_formats|> Plugin Output Formats especially for the Roots Magic dialect.

Re: App for Android-based Tablet
Thank you that's very helpful. You have convinced me that FH is ahead of the market here in understanding the differences between Gedcom handling in the different applications.
