* Question regarding Events and Attributes?

Importing from another genealogy program? This is the place to ask. Questions about Exporting should go in the Exporting sub-forum of the General Usage forum.

Question regarding Events and Attributes?

Post by mardler »

I'm not actually sure what the problem is, but I'd really appreciate some help, please! If you can answer at either one or both of two levels, (1) here's how you fix it and (2) here's what you don't understand/are doing wrong, that would be brilliant. Thank you in advance.

The observed issue: several facts at my website are showing as "_ATTR". For example: see this man's record at:
http://howesfamilies.com/getperson.php? ... ee=Onename
His Military Service and Military Service Number facts are showing as described. The web display program I use, TNG, used to work fine with my GED output from Family Tree Maker.

Thing is, I also have a customized fact called "Witness at Marriage" which seems to be working well, eg,
http://howesfamilies.com/getperson.php? ... ee=Onename

The only difference I can see between these two is that I set up the last as an Event, and the first two from the Military2 Fact Set are both Attributes. But I'm sure I'm missing something. I've spent a while going through the help facility but I must be looking at the wrong pages, or not reading the correct ones right!
TIA for whatever advice you an offer.

Have you seen:
http://www.tngforum.us/index.php?showtopic=8105
Do you know that to get TNG to accept FH Attributes you need to change all '1 _ATTR' tags to '1 EVEN' before importing your GEDCOM?
Also once you have got TNG to recognise new 'EVEN' custom events, before the data can be imported you must make sure you have selected 'Accept' against Event Data on the edit custom event pages.
If you upgrade to FH5 there is a plug-in that will automatically edit your GEDCOM and make all the necessary changes.
and

FH5 Plugins Export Gedcom to TNG and Convert File Links.
