* another stupid question im afraid

i am researching the clack connection to the cooke's

on lds i have come across a document that is submitted which i am taking on face value...........and finding the sources of the information.

on the 1841 census i have the children of richard clack and margaret as

joseph c1832
jane c1835
elizabeth 1838
harriet c1840/1

on the 1851 census

joseph 18
jane 16
elizabeth 12
harriett 10
margaret 6

the net information gives
james jan 1837
caroline mary 1842
ann 1846

found possible death of james q4 1837

BUT
thinking allowed............decided to search for carloine in 1842, if she had been born and died between census's could explain everything

there are 3 in 1842 all at the same records office of witney, oxfordshire (the same as the other children )

so my question

is there any way of looking at birth certificate to make sure parents are right before ordering it

sorry very long winded but got there eventually

Hope the following may help, it is taken from:

'If you have done your own searching in the GRO indexes and have found more than one reference to the name you are researching, or are unsure which is the entry you require, we offer reference checking online. The charge is £7 for action on the first entry, which includes the cost of the certificate, and £3 for checking each subsequent reference against the information you have provided. To enable us to do this, you must give us one piece of information that you are sure will appear on the certificate, e.g. the exact date of the event.

A certificate will only be issued if the entry we check matches the checking point you give us'.

A copy of a birth certificate can also be ordered from the local register office (not record office) itself. I believe the Witney registration district has now been merged into Oxford. There are details as to how you do that here:

and you can order certificates online there too. Hopefully if you give her name, the parents names and year of birth they'll send you the correct certificate.

Another way would be to look at the parish registers for Broadwell and then you can check out the whole of that Family Group Record from LDS.

im afraid visiting oxfordshire to check the parish records is not an option at the moment

but using the local office rather than gro might be the best option.

i have checked bdm against lds....with only limited success.it seems that the clacks were rather big in the area at the time
