I can highly recommend this site. I have been using it through a college subscription for some time now and have found many great leads to my family.

I have just spent most of the weekend on this site with great results. However I cannot access the site this am. Does anyone know if the trial is over as a whole or just my trial period?
Has anyone any tips for getting permanent access please

Can't access it here, either (1400 GMT), after a very successful session yesterday. Hopefully it's just a temporary problem.

Looks like it might have ended. I picked up the link from a RootsWeb mailing list link I think.

You might well be correct. The BL site says that the facility is available only to Further and Higher Education establishments and in BL reading rooms.

I have just been back on there and it still seems to be open. Its well worth looking IF it covers your area. It is meant to be a cross section of 19C life and so just a few selected papers. I hit lucky and found my errant gg uncle cropping up in a dozen Police Court reports! It answered the question as to why he was in prison in 1871.

I think they are gradually closing off access via the link which everyone has been using; which I understand was supposed to have been private but got out 'into the wild'. I just hope it turns up on my Athens login sometime soon - it was a goldmine

There does appear to be an 'athens' access link on the 'sign in' page.
Knowing nothing about this term. How does one obtain a an athens ID. Is it restricted to HE or FE sources?

Athens logins are distributed by the administrators at UK Universities/colleges or other organizations, etc, usually someone in the library or IT Dept.
They are personal logins which entitle access to a range of resources - the recources depend on which ones your Uni subscribes to.
They only allow access to subscribed recources, but access can be made from home (if the resource provider allows remote access - some do and some don't)

It does say its still only a trial and will close sometime so we need to get going whle we can

I tried that link but there isn't a location field. I get:
Institution address
City
State
Zip
Phone
I tried putting International in the address field but it just sent me back to the form. Has it changed since yesterday?

Oh, I see. 'International' goes in 'State'.

I've just tried to access the archive and have been told that my e-mail address does not belong to an institution. Access denied! Looks as if this source has been closed. Can anyone confirm this?

Sometimes I have to have several tries before I can sign on.  Maybe if you leave it for a while and try again you may be more successful.

If not, apply for another trial.

Thanks margarita. I still can't sign in so perhaps I had better request another trial.

Just started a trial and have looked up some data. The page I get is a list of papers and articles with 'image' to the left. Clicking this does not give an image but reference numbers. The menu at the top of the page with the article offers download but it does nothing.

Can anybody guide me to get an image please?

This may well have finished now as it was only a temporary trial.

I only just registered and got my password, so I am not sure what you mean unless they left the servers running issuing passwords but closed the trial system???

Problem solved!
The trial is 14 days from signup and working.
The problem seems to be thyat it didn't like Firefox browser, IE works OK.
