Could someone please explain the meaning of the terms 'sealed' and 'endowed' in the context of this listing from a ancestry report:
'Edward xxxxx was born in 1609 in Westcote, Wiltshire, Eng. He died on 28 Mar 1665 in Burbage, Wiltshire, Eng. He was baptized on 29 Apr 1993 in the Ogden Utah temple. He was endowed on 5 Nov 1993 in the Ogden Utah temple. He married Issard yyyyy on 9 Oct 1626 in Church Of England, Burbage, Wiltshire, England. They were sealed on 18 Mar 1976 in the Washington D.C. temple'
I didn't realise that someone could be baptised over 300 years after they'd died!
Many thanks.
David.

I thought the whole point of the IGI was that the church of LDS was retrospectively baptising everyone in history so that we were all mormons?

Have a visit to Wikipedia for it's definitions of Sealing and Endownment.
Basically, it's absolute rubbish and can be totally ignored as it has no bearing in genealogy.

The whole point of the IGI is that they have an idea about Heaven that youre more likely to get in if you have relations there (a bit like school catchment areas) and consequently have spent a fortune over the years gathering genealogical information that is now available free to us all. You may not agree with their reasons, but we couldn't do much of this without them.
