I wonder if anyone help or point me in the right direction. I have recently acquired a photograph of my grandfather in front of a shop he owned in about 1920's south London. It was, I'm told, compulsory purchased. Does anyone know if any documentation would (or does) exist to provide the deatails pertaining to such an event.
Any help gratefully received.

As a compulsory purchase would presumably be by either national government, the local authority or Borough, or possibly by another agency such as a railway or road or utility company, or the Forces, I would suggest a start by knowing which Borough the shop was in, and researching to see where their archives might be. If you know the Borough, give them a call today and they may even be able to tell where their archives are kept.
Might the compulsory purchase also have featured in the local paper? In which case if you have the date and place, a visit to The National Newspaper Library at Colindale could be productive, or find a local newspaper in the relevant local record office depending on the date.
Even more basic could be to google on 'compulsory purchase' with the name of the shop or the road or the area.
If you know what the shop made way for, you could google on the name of the proposal.
A Borough would usually have a record of a compulsory purchase if their records are intact, because a financial transaction or other deal involving public funds or land would most likely have been involved.
