Has anyone else had this happen or know why this should be??  I have found the records of my ancestor in the WW1 records on Ancestry, but all the records relate to his service in RTA after the war!!  I know I have found the correct chap as it lists his address, wife and children.  Also the records refer to a letter which is 'attached' but does not appear on the ancestry scan of the records, I would love to see this letter as it concerns his request for discharge.  Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

My guess would be his main records were in the 'Burnt Records'. I think the records were stored by regiment so his RTA records could have been in a different place from his main service records.

Does his medal card show different service numbers for the different regiments?

Just a thought - have you paged back to check the previous images? Certainly when the stuff first came out, the link went to the Attestation form, even if there were other images for the same soldier and I did have to scroll back to find other stuff - including a 1980s letter from another family historian!
I think the true 'front sheet' is a sheet of paper with a scribbled name and number.
I'm not sure if this is still the case - on the other hand, my latest discoveries might simply always have the Attestation form first.
You may well have already checked the adjacent images, of course.

Thank you both for your help.  I have found 28 pages of his service record, I can read enough to confirm who he is and roughly where he served.... a lot I cannot either read nor understand.  He was in 28th Bde Royal Field Artillery as a gunner when mobalised in 1914, then in 1923 rejoined 91st Field Brigade RA (TA)until 1928.  Sadly the letter about his request for discharge is not there.  I think he joined as TA in 1912 not sure what that means though.
He had 2 different service numbers too
