Saving census images -problem!
I have been saving census images from Ancestry by right clicking on the image and selecting Save As then placing them into my Media file. Yesterday I succumbed to the reminders I had been getting on my netbook that I should upgrade from IE6 to IE8 and then found I could not copy images afterwards.
I can't see what to do to allow the same saving of Ancestry images. Can anyone help plse?

Ancestry have a New interface, above the image on the right is a big 'SAVE' button click on that and select Save to My Computer.

Hi Jane, I had tried that but the image saved was just a fraction of the whole page and the rest greyed out.. Oddly though when I went back to my PC to check if it had changed I found it had not and that using Rt Click's Save Picture As still worked. I have noticed that IE's interface has changed a couple of times over the last few weeks as they put a message up each time to tell me I had been selected to try it out (foolish people!)but I didn't experience any problems then. However I think the current problem is probably connected with the change from IE6 to IE8 but I may be wrong.
Thanks for your reply though,

I have had a similar problem. It occurs if I try to click on the image (to move it, say) but by mistake do a click and drag, The image becomes greyed to indicate that it is selected. Then, when I try to save it only the portion within the current window is saved instead of the whole image. Even if i click away from the image the same thing happens. I have to reload before I can save the whole image.

There seem to be some inconsistencies lately Gerry with how Ancestry are enabling movements on and with their images. A week ago I could click and drag ,this week I can't. last week I could zoom in using the mouse wheel, now I have to select a magnification amount. I assume some changes are impending and it might settle down soon.

I am not sure about the UK version of Ancestry, but in the US there are two different options for image viewers. The standard viewer uses the dropdown list for 50/100/150/200% image size, you can't drag the image around, and you can right click on the image and save. The advanced viewer uses the +/- for image size, you can drag the image around, and you can not right click to save because the viewer is script based. You can pick which one to use under options.

Well , I got it sorted eventually. In part it was as Jane had mentioned ie a new interface. However it was not until I selected Options in the toolbar above the census or other image and selected Standard Viewer instead of Advanced Image Viewer that I got back to being able to Rt Click and use Save Picture As.
There's no doubt the Advanced viewers have some advantages eg click and drag and zoom features plus, on the latest Advanced viewer as opposed to the Advanced Viewer (old)there are rotate and mirror features.
Unfortunately each time I tried the Advanced versions I could only get a partial image. I will keep trying though!

I certainly prefer Ancestry's Advanced Image Viewer and have no difficulty saving the whole image file by clicking the orange/brown Save button at top right. I'm using Chrome rather than IE. The old viewer will be discontinued in due course:
Over the coming weeks, while we roll out the new viewer, the old viewer will continue to be available through the options menu on the toolbar. We will discontinue the old viewer once we are confident we have identified and resolved any problems.
