I've just received a postcard someone found in their 'records' that was addressed to one of my husbands ancestors that I'm researching.
It's adresssed to Gunner T. Robinson at Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
Unfortunalty, no-one knows anything else about his military records other than the fact that he was injured. And there are lots of Thomas Robinson from Durham listed on the various websites.
Does anyone know of a site where I can find out what regiments were stationed at Fort Nelson?

The website is brilliant if you want to look at pictures of museum exhibits. Other than that it's pretty useless. As to Fort Nelson itself, to cut a long story short, they don't have the info on general display and don't have the staff any more to look into archived documents.
Hence I need a source other than Fort Nelson itself. I will try and pop in tomorrow (it's about 15 min drive from home), but I seriously doubt that's a viable route.

Whats the time period involved ?

The postmark is unfortunately not readable, but I'm fairly certain it's between 1918 and 1921 because it's a George V stamp and it's 1p.

You need to try one of the military history forums - The Great War Forum on http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php? will just get into your time period and whatever they suggest may well carry forward. Also the RootsChat Armed Forces forum on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.ph ... 300.0.html
Both have sub-forums for more targeted posting.
Neither will give you the answer straight off, of course, but either someone will know or will be able to suggest ways to get the info you want.
