Confused by GRO Index Entry

Post by davidm_uk » 18 Jan 2013 12:08

I've been searching for the marriage of a Hyacinth I E to Hayball, in the 1916-2005 marriage records.

Ancestry found three entries, all 1949, Q1, Swindon, 7c, 1086.

The mans entry on the GRO Index image reads:

Hayball,   George E,   Greening or Evans or Austin,   Swindon   7c  1086

and there are 3 corresponding entries on the images pages for Hyacinth I E Greening, Evans and Austin.

Any suggestions as to what this might mean?

Perhaps Hyacinth had been married twice before, so came trailing a maiden name and two married names.

You'll only know for sure by ordering the certificate.

Thanks all, and for prompting me to look at MarriageFinder on FindMyPast, which I hadn't seen before. Much easier to use than Ancestry.
