Different Fathers on Birth/Marriage Cert

My mother was born 24 Aug 1927,her father on birth cert is Joseph Bradley mother Doris May Pull.She married 6 July 1946 on her marriage cert under father's name is states Henry George Richards.I know i wont find the answer,as there is no one i can ask.I wonder is anyone has any idea,for two different names.Joseph died in 1975,Doris in 1980.

Do you have her original Marriage and Birth certificates? or certified copies? as transcription errors (although rare) do happen especially on GRO copies, it's worth if possible viewing the original register if it's a church marriage, or asking the registrar in the original district to check.

Mistakes are always possible but there's a big difference in the names here! Who did your mother marry? I have seen the bride and grooms' fathers names transposed on a certificate before now.

What name did your mother grow up with? I guess its possible she found out a family secret before she married and wanted the truth to be on her certificate. On the other hand perhaps the 'father' on her marriage certificate was a step father who she had grown up with and wanted to acknowledge.

Is it possible that her mother remarried? Maybe Joseph Bradley is her birth father and Henry George Richards is her 'father' at the time she got married?
