Police pension records

The Metropolitan Police Historical Store have made the following comment about one of my ancestors in an email response to my request for information.

'you would need to obtain his pension certificate from the National Archives to determine whether he was in fact your ancestor.'

Can anyone tell me how I go about getting the certificate?

Thanks Jane. I suppose I have to make a visit to get further documentation?
