Lincs to the Past
Has anyone seen any updates on when Lincs to the Past (https://www.lincstothepast.com) will be coming back online? The last I heard was that it was supposed to come back online in early 2022, but it is still not available as far as I can see.
Thanks,
Bill
Thanks,

Bill,
Was that the Lincolnshire Archives site?
If so, then please try this link: https://www.calmview.eu/lincolnshirearc ... fault.aspx

Mervyn,
Thanks for the reply.
No... it was separate from the archives site. It had digitized copies of some parish records online. As far as I can tell there are no digitized copies online on the archives site.

There's a message pinned at the top of the Archives' Facebook page saying that they're planning to bring the images back, but I didn't notice anything that looked like a firm timescale.

arthurk,
Thanks for the info. I'm not on Facebook so wouldn't have known.
Is this a sign that Lincs to the Past is being incorporated into the Lincolnshire Archives site? They used to be separate.

I'm not on Facebook either, but like so many other organisations, Lincolnshire Archives use that and other social media to give news and updates. Fortunately they use a public page that anyone can see.

Hopefully, this link will provide the text of the message that is dated 22 December 2021:
https://www.facebook.com/LincolnshireAr ... 8wY2KKuzpl ~ it sometimes needs to be refreshed (F5) to display the message.
One paragraph says "The website launch represents the first stage of a largescale digital development project to replace the outdated Lincs to the Past website which will be decommissioned in the New Year. The new website features an improved format and searchability for viewing archive records."

Strange. It didn't work for me. I went to Facebook and looked at their site, but there were no pinned posts that I could see.

Thanks for the link. I was able to see the post you are referring to. Hopefully they will get it up and running soon, although it has been 10 months since the post was posted.tatewise wrote: ↑24 Oct 2022 22:26Hopefully, this link will provide the text of the message that is dated 22 December 2021:

If it helps, digitised images of Lincolnshire parish registers are on Find My Past, courtesy of Lincolnshire Archives.

Are they free on Find My Past? I don't have a subscription.

Re: Lincs to the Past
You need to create a free non-subscription FMP account but the Lincolnshire Parish BMB records & images do seem to be free.

Re: Lincs to the Past
I created a free account. I still can't seem to see the transcripts or images. I used the name Richard Henshaw, died in 1700, in Lincolnshire, England. It found 1 hit. When I click on the icon it takes me to a page where I have to sign up for a 1 month or 12 month subscription.

Re: Lincs to the Past
Yes, that is odd.
It seems that 'Lincolnshire Burials' are not free whereas 'Lincolnshire Baptisms' and 'Lincolnshire Marriages And Banns' are free!
Maybe worth asking FindMyPast about why that difference.
BTW: Use the Search > All record sets menu option and Filter by England and Lincolnshire, England to see a page of all the Lincolnshire record sets, but I cannot say which ones are free.

Re: Lincs to the Past
Thanks all. I was able to get in and see the images for some baptisms and marriages. Odd that burials are not free. Of course I would pick a burial to look at first. Thanks Mike for pointing out that the others were free.

Re: Lincs to the Past
I haven't tried as a non-subscriber, but one of my favourite ways of searching FMPs parish records is to use the Parish Records Browse facility. From the home screen, select Search at the top, then All Record Sets. Type "Lincolnshire" into the search box which contains the greyed text "e.g. census, pilot, second world war..." and from the results choose "Lincolnshire, Parish Registers Browse, 1538-1911". On the next screen you can just enter the relevant parish, leave the other search boxes blank, and it will show you the records that are available for the parish selected.
I often access the register images that way, drilling down to the register I am after, particularly if I am looking for an entry from a date in a transcript from elsewhere, or within an estimated event range, as I have found from experience that the transcripts of the register records, and hence results that might be obtained from a name search, are somewhat incomplete. I have several times been unable to find an individual by searching for their baptism for example, by name and year, but have then found it by reading through the images of the original register pages for the relevant period.

Re: Lincs to the Past
David, those free records don't list the free Lincolnshire Parish Records!

Yes I do likewise; you can get a feel for the handwriting, the area and marginal notes.RS3100 wrote: ↑26 Oct 2022 12:00I haven't tried as a non-subscriber, but one of my favourite ways of searching FMPs parish records is to use the Parish Records Browse facility. David, a simpler way is to use Familysearch Search>Catalog>Places i.e. Parishes
Select On-line and the results will be filtered to only those parish records records that are available to view or search on-line.
There are lots of parish register images available to view on-line, that haven’t been transcribed yet, so don’t pop up when doing an individual search. Good way to get images of the un-transcribed records.
NB You may need to register (free) and log-in to see these images.

Re: Lincs to the Past
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, the same images which are free and accessible by me as a non-subscriber are not free via this route. I would have loved to be able to browse through the records. I'm guessing that this is because as Mike pointed out, the burial records are not free for some reason.RS3100 wrote: ↑26 Oct 2022 12:00I haven't tried as a non-subscriber, but one of my favourite ways of searching FMPs parish records is to use the Parish Records Browse facility. Re: Lincs to the Past
Unfortunately it appears the parish records for Spalding, Lincolnshire are only viewable at the Family History LIbrary or a Family History Center.

Yes, indeed. Some of the Ancestry index only entries have a Film number which can be used to find the imageGowermick wrote: ↑26 Oct 2022 15:14David, a simpler way is to use Familysearch Search>Catalog>Places i.e. Parishes
