Performance

Post by gwilym'smum »

Hi,
We tend to think of our research taking place in archives, libraries, on the computer and perhaps visiting the places where our ancestors lived but sometimes a performance can really enhance our understanding of the lives of those who went before.
Sorry if not really a suitable topic but I had to tell people in Cheshire that if you see Elizabeth Morris advertised as talking about Lizzie Vernon and Northwich Workhouse it is a must to go and see her. She was at the Alsager branch of the CheshireFHS last evening. Elizabeth told the story of Lizzie, (an actual person from the records) in character, for over 45 minutes. Many of the audience were moved to tears. Many of the facts we could recognize but by applying it, in character, to an actual person we did not need any scenery the performance said it all.
