Enumeration dates are much more spread out in the US as Mike mentioned due to the vast distances and the fact that especially in the mid-1800's the west was sparsely populated.
I have a family that was enumerated three times in the 1850 census. Once in Clark County, Missouri where they were living at the time. Next in Butte County, California where they had moved to by the time that area was enumerated. And again in Yuba County, California where they were living when that area was enumerated. All three locations are places where the family actually lived.

Interestingly I have another family that is also enumerated 3 times in 1850. Once in Missouri, next in California, and then back in Missouri. He went to strike it rich in the gold mines in California and didn't so he moved back to a different address in Missouri.
It often took 4 - 6 months after the census date of June 1st to get the enumeration completed everywhere.
