An interesting list which seems to have one glaring error and one big omission. It indicates that Family Search is only useful in the USA, which it is not, and has completely ignored FreeBMD which must be one of the most used resources in the UK! I am sure that others can come up with other sites that they would have expected to see.

Firstly, I wasn't presenting this as the only list or, indeed, an exhaustive list - simply a useful one.

Secondly, I think you need to read the page before the list itself to see how the data is gathered and what it represents. It is not a vote or sites selected by them it is 'based on actual traffic statistics'.

So, when a country is mentioned it has nothing to do with (as you claim) only being useful in that country! It is simply showing where the site is run from. So, for example, both Ancestry.co.uk AND Ancestry.com are listed. Familysearch.org - as is correctly indicated is based in the US.

Cyndislist is a very comprehensive site but, as I have explained, is not based on the same criteria as the one I mentioned.

Aside from the statistical usage table the site http://www.genealogyintime.com is also very handy at keeping one up to date with new releases of data from various sources see

The more the merrier of these different types of reference lists.

Ha! fultonhistory.com is "only" at #50.

Tom Tryniski Digitizes 27 Million Old Newspaper Pages in His Living Room (While Commercial Services Fight to Catch Up)

It is one of my favorite websites. I got a major breakthrough on a brick wall problem I *never* thought I would solve. I recommend the website to anyone who has family in the Northeastern USA.

Clearly I need to do more PR so I can bump them up the list.

Genealogy in Time is a fun site, and the 'new releases' list is very useful. I need to visit them more.
