Bashford family kent ..strange family.

Post by jsphillips » 20 Dec 2014 19:47

I have 2 queries on the Basfgords of Chiddingstone Kent both very strange !! Before I continue I have used FreeBMD, Find my Past, Family search and Ancestry to no avail. I am hoping someone may be able to help me.
The line of Bashfords I am pursuing is that from Kent notably Chiddingstone.
The start is John Bashford born 1849 in Chiddingstone Census 1851 OK, Census 1861 Hilders Farmhouse OK
1871 Census OK as a servant in Chiddingstone Ok..
CENSUS 1881 shows him at Bowbeach with wife Anne b 1839 Chiddingstone (Query 1 is this Anne Ashdown ?) Ancestry Members Tree shows this others dont !)Trying to trace her Maiden name....
daughter Marian b 1862 Tonbridge (Query 2 cannot find birth in Kent only in Surrey) She also disappears after 1881 no Marriage no death no Travel ???
1881 Census shows family with son John H Bashford b 1874 Chiddingstone , Walter T Bashford b 1875 Chiddingstone and Oswald N Bashford b 1878 (This son OK) Both John H and Walter T also disappeared ??? (Query 3)
Lastly It appears that wife Ann (Ashdown?) did not marry him? but had children..she appeared to have married James Aynscombe in Tunbridge Wells 1859 but no death of him or divorce ?? Query 4
Any help on these conundrums would be most welcome)

Love a challenge! Some limited leads:

Walter Bashford is on the 1891 Census: RG12; Piece: 1031; Folio: 4; Page: 1
As a Page, working in the household of William E Oliver, Clerk in Holy Orders.

James Aynscombe who married Ann and had two children with her, can be found in the 1881 Census - RG11; Piece: 612; Folio: 128; Page: 2 - with a different wife (Elizabeth) and different children from those he had with Ann. Almost certain to be the same James unless there were 2 James born at Hever in 1840 who became Cricket Ball Makers. In the 1871 Census, Ann and one of her children (Harriet Ann) can be found living with Mary Ann Ashdown: RG10; Piece: 925; Folio: 64; Page: 17; her son, Charles William was with his Aynscombe grandparents: RG10; Piece: 925; Folio: 64; Page: 18. James and his 'new' family: RG10; Piece: 615; Folio: 8; Page: 10
