I have researched the family of Coley fairly successfully with the 1 exception :-
I am missing the wife of William Coley born Q1 1876 Earl Shilton ref Hinckley 7A 222
He also shows in 1891 Census High Street Earl Shilton so far so good.
in 1901 Census he shows in 3 High Street Carrs Row Earl Shilton as aged 24 (yes)
Wife Ethel Coley married female 22 b 1879 Boot heel Builder birth place Earl Shilton
in 1911 Census both show as in 4 Carrs Row High Street Earl Shilton
Again she shows as 33 b 1878 Earl Shilton
The Census in 1911 shows as married 13 years ..that makes a marriage circa 1898.
I have searched all Ethel ??? married btw 1894 to 1901 and all Wm Coley marriages around this date....NONE. I see that she died as Ethel A Coley Q3 1942 Mt Bosworth 7a 65.
I have searched for all Ethel A **** marriages btw 1894 to 1901 and found Ethel A Mugglestone...No
Ethel Ann Williams...NO.
Additionally son George is shown on 1911 Census as 4 years ie born 1907 no trace of his birth either
Strange family !!!
So I am looking for Ethels birth name and birth data and also her Sons George ??
Grateful for any pointers

Not all BMD's are registered with the GRO. Have you tried the local Records Office to see if they have a copies of the Birth and Marriage.

The marriage above is also in in the
Lancs BMD as
Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1899
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
CALEY William HARDING Ethel A
Bolton Register Office or Registrar Attended Bolton RO/131/112
Which suggests this could be a Registry office, Catholic or other non-conformist church wedding.

I have moved this thread to the Research Forum.
FreeBMD has:
Marriages Dec 1899
Caley William Bolton 8c 713
Harding Ethel Adeline Bolton 8c 713
Hartley Elizabeth Bolton 8c 713
Knowles William Bolton 8c 713
The trick is not to be too specific about names.
On FreeBMD I used Surname Coley but ticked Phonetic search surnames
Alternatively, I used Surname C?l?y to allow for different vowels.
You also sometimes have to allow for different consonants.
I have found my relations recorded as Pate, Kate, etc.
FreeBMD has:
Births Dec 1879
Harding Ethel Adeline Bolton 8c 331
Regarding George, FreeBMD has the following not far from Earl Shilton:
Births Mar 1906
Coley George Birmingham 6d 136
Births Sep 1907
COLEY George Herbert Birmingham 6d 56
Births Dec 1908
Coley George Stourbridge 6c 136
On the 1911 Census there are several anomalies, and since unlike earlier years the person themselves filled it in, the information is not always accurate.
The wife should fill in the Marriage and Children details but William did it and the Marriage Years has been added in afterwards.
Also the Birth Place for George has not been filled in.
The Birth Place for Ethel is just dittos, so it might not be accurate.
Unfortunately, also in the 1911 Census there is an entry for William Caley and his wife Ethel, and she was born in Bolton about 1880 and the other details fit.
So back to square one with William Coley and Ethel who may never have formally married.
You also need to confirm that the Death record is for your Ethel Coley and not a misnomer for Ethel Adeline Caley nee Harding.
In your original posting you say "William Coley born Q1 1876 Earl Shilton ref Hinckley 7A 222"
My searches in FreeBMD/FMP say "William Coley born Q1 1876 ref Leicester 7A 222"
So it seems he may not have actually been born in Earl Shilton.

Thanks all of your researches all point to Ethel Adeline Harding marriage in Bolton Q4 1899 8c 713.
Although this is a possibility nearly all of the Coleys were Leicestershire as Blaby, Earl Shilton, Market Bosworth, Hinckley, Leicester & Shenton. There were a few over county border to Warwicks & Staffs.
So I find it strange why Bolton ?? perhaps to escape Family spies.
On 1901 Census (after marriage 1899) there is a William Caley b 1876 and Ethel A Caley b 1880 in Crompton Street Oldham. I am fairly sure that the Bolton connection is not the one. I must look as suggested under Non Conformists
Best regards

No mention of checking Parish Registers above. Not sure if you can get to see them; but if not a transcript of the Earl Shilton Registers (1552-1910) can be purchased from:
http://www.parishchest.com/earl_shilton ... 910__P9156 or from the Leicester Parish Registers site:
http://leicestershire.webs.com
The publisher is very helpful if you want to contact her prior to any purchase.
You might also want to try tracking forward the Ethel's of the right age listed in the 1881 & 1891 Censuses as having been born in Earl Shilton. There aren't many so you could try 'eliminating' them one-by-one.
