I am have problems with this note on the edge of a Roman Catholic Baptism from Liverpool for Thomas James Purcell. My guess is it's to do with marriage of Thomas to Ada Anne Purcell, 28th Feb 1911.

Does anyone have any ideas, my Comprehensive school did not forsee a need for me to speak Latin unfortunately.

Writing a bit difficult to make out without more samples to compare with, but does the following help?

Purcell [Ipse] Himself Year 1911 Day 28 Month February(?) marriage contract with Ada Annie Taubman ... St. Alphonsus Church Liverpool - Last couple of words look like a signature.

Thanks, I already had the marriage certificate, but the Liverpool Catholic records have just come on-line and they often have extra information, such as addresses of Witnesses and or Different Witnesses from the Official Register. I suspect the message is something to with the fact Ada Anne was only baptised a few days before the marriage, so I guess the priest was checking the information.

That was quite possibly the final stage her conversion to the Catholic faith prior to the marriage. At that time I don't think they could have married in a Catholic church if they weren't both of that faith. If her parents were William and Mary then, from FreeSearch, she was first baptised into the Anglican (Church of England) faith at St. Peter's, Liverpool on 1 December 1889, but you probably already know that.

Yes, thanks I had found it, the Family seemed to do that quite often in the mid/late 19th century.

It may be easier to decipher the handwriting, as well as translate, if you have a checklist of terms which are likely to be in the document. Many sites offer Genealogical Word Lists for ease in translation. One such list:

Purcell himself on the 28th day of the month of February contracted a marriage with Ada Ann Taubman in the church of St Alphonsus near Liverpool.
Can't manage the next bit but the M word might be Missa (Mass).

I had a Catholic wedding myself, being a Protestant marrying an RC. Although the wedding took place in a Catholic church, we were not allowed a mass. I remember having to take instruction by post and in person, and then having to promise to bring up any children as Catholic.
