1881 census on disc (Latter Day Saints)
Question may have been asked before, in which case I apologise: does anyone know if there is an updated version of the 1881 census viewer which workks with Windows 7? I have version 2 which works with XP and Vista, but I have to borrow a computer to use these operating systems.

I have moved this topic to the Research Forum because it is nothing to do with Ancestral Sources.
Is the problem that the program will not install, or that after installation it will not run properly?
Either way you may find that Windows 7 XP/Vista Compatibility Mode will solve the problem.
Exactly which version of Windows 7 do you have, as some versions offer more XP Compatibility options.
e.g.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit and is it Home Premium or something else?
Windows XP Mode is free download but works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise.
However, if the program installs, but does not run properly, then try this first.
Locate the program executable (.exe) file in its installation folder within C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\
Alternatively, if you cannot find that file, but there is an icon on the desktop for it, then use that icon instead.
Right-click this executable file or icon and chose Properties and then the Compatibility tab.
Tick and select one of the later Compatibly Modes for XP or Vista that used to work OK.
You may also need to change some of the Settings, the Privilege Level, or Change settings for all users to get it to work OK.
In particular Run this program as an administrator can work wonders.

Thanks for the update, it is Windows home premium 64 bit, and the programme does not install, hence my request about an updated version.

If you Google for "Family History Research Viewer" you will find updated drivers.
Sorry that should read "Family History Resource Viewer"

family history resource file viewer 4.02 seems to be the latest, but despite many online links via Google search I have found none where an actual download works.
There are many postings saying it won't work on 64-bit PC anyway.
When you say it won't install, what have you tried, and what errors do you get?
