Long/Wide PDF Files

Post by DrDBW » 28 Apr 2009 22:11

I have recently been trying to get a family tree printed out for an upcoming reunion. Was hoping to get it into one continuous strip, but as it turns out, it is going to have to be in two.

There are two issues, either of which if I had a solution would have been able have it done.

First is that any PDF printer drivers I could find were limited to a total length/height of 5m for a page. My tree is 9 m long (only 0.4m tall), so it is two pages. Are there any printer drivers that will allow you to go over that?

Second is the printer can handled up to 15m continuous page printing. So that next best thing would have been to send them my two page PDF, they then sticth them together, and away we go. However, that problem here is they have to edit the PDF and the fonts were not embedded in it. They are there for printing, but as soon as they tried to edit the document, cross marks come up on all the text for the slightly less than standard font. OK, no major problem, can I use one of the fonts that the printer uses? So, find one they have on their system that looks ok, use that on my document to generate the PDF and ..... hope still doesn't work. So, any ideas on what I am missing here with the printer driver? Is it possible to have the font embedded correctly so someone else can edit it?

My understanding is that the PDF standard is limited to 5m.

NovaPDF which comes with V4 allows you to embed fonts, just drop down into the printer settings.

Another option is to install the printer drivers for the printer you want to use on your computer and capture the output to a file and get the people with the printer to use that file.
