Has anyone used tribalpages.com for sharing their family tree with others? I've only just come across it today and wondered if what are the pros and cons. They claim in the privacy statement never to sell your data. You seem to be able to decide whether your tree shows in the search facility or is kept private. You also seem to be able to set up a separate password for guests, so you can specifically invite people to see your tree if you are not making it public.
You can load in a gedcom file.
Has anyone used this website, and have you loaded your data from FH? You can add photos on the website, but this seems a bit clunky if you've already got the links on FH. Has anyone found how this works?

What other websites have people used? I'm concerned about how some sites seem to take control of your data. I've seen some negative comments about how Ancestry uses data. I do have a subscription with them, but have never loaded any data to them.

And is there a website that will give space for free that could be used to load a FH created set of pages. Isn't Rootsweb owned by Ancestry? And what does that mean for data control?

Personally I keep my pages on my own site, as my ISP provides a pretty good hosting package. I can't comment on Tribal pages, but hopefully someone will.

You could try using FHC (in the links section) to split and simplify the photos for it. It works with phpgedview.

Ours is on Tribal pages, and we get quite a lot of complements on it... We use split tree helper with a query to cut it down to just relations, spouses and immediate in-laws, and just upload the result periodically. It mangles the notes a bit and ignores a lot of interesting stuff (you can see our comments on that on the home page) but it basically works, and it's free. We haven't tried putting in any pictures because presumably we'd have to do them again every time we upload it. And keep a named list of people with more than one middle name... you have to enter them all by hand every time (I've tried complaining).

I've had a site on Tribal Pages for a couple of years and am a big fan!  I don't use it as a searching tool, and I don't really expect people to find me via it - but I find it a very useful way of displaying my tree.

I have chosen to pay a small amount to get rid of the flashing adverts and also to provide me with a larger quota (my tree has an excess of 4000 names)for photos etc.

I have also protected the site with a password and so it can be viewed by invitation only.  Those viewing the site are asked to sign the guestbook and those who have done so are kept informed when the password changes.  

Many of my living relatives have asked to be visible, whilst others have not... this is relatively easy to accomplish with the press of a few buttons, although the task does get just a little more onerous as the tree gets larger and my brain power gets smaller!!

TP is easy to navigate and its dead easy to provide an impressive tree literally at the press of a button.

I have just two gripes: 1. The TP team aren't also as quick to respond to problems as they might be.  2. Although names, places, dates and notes are displayed, unfortunately occupations are not - which is rather a shame.

Go on, I'd encourage you to give it a go!
