help a new starter pls

I am searching marriage index around 1862 for william hardbottle and Lisa Turner.
The pages show SURNAME of married person & NAME of the same.In the latter column there are female names.
Does this mean the entry could be registered in either of the parties names.

Marriages are indexed under both parties' names...the wife's is her maiden name. It's easier if you look up the more uncommon name first, make a note of the date, district, volume and page numbers, and then look up the other spouse to see if the numbers match.

Having said that...I have found a William Harbottle and an Elizabeth Turner, in Pontefract, but it was in 1885. (This was on FreeBMD, which is slightly less reliable).
