Anyone else had trouble trying to purchase a copy of GEDClean32 - an application that promises to strip out material from GEDCOM files? I've tried to obtain it from raynorshyn.com but consistently get a message that appears to imply that the PayPal network is temporarily down. I phoned PayPal who say that there is no problem with their network so I am beginning to wonder if raynorshyn is a scam site. Has anyone made a successful purchase from them?

It seems to bring up the Paypal screen when I use it, with my email address filled in and it certainly appears to be the actual paypal website processing it (rather than a scam site). I haven't tried paying so I don't know it that works. What you can't be sure of is whether the person who runs the website will send you the email or CD once the item is processed but there is no reason to think that they won't.

Posting a reply to my own query and I can now confirm as Nick has observed that it is a genuine PayPal screen that comes up.  GEDClean32 is a genuine product and reynorshyn.com is a genuine site.  I have since had further communication with Tom at raynorshyn and downloaded a copy of the program.  I have yet to fully investigate the program but my first impression is that it is excellent and does much of what many of us are looking for - to create a stripped down GEDCOM that can be published without compromising private details of living people.

The problem that I experienced is a PayPal problem that they are hopefully trying to resolve.

I have had the same problem paying on this site.
Does anyone know if it is available elsewhere?
Has anyone compared it to Res Privata which is a free for personal use utility to clean out gencom files?
I have used this one but the problem I have is that I don't have birth dates for all the living people in my gedcom files so Res Privata doesn't pick them up. Does anyone know if Gedclean does this?

I have just managed to pay through raynorshine.com and got the file by email straight away. I have had a play and it looks pretty good to me. You can filter on the living flag easily or you could create a list in a .txt file for it to filter on. Or you can analyse the file in real time. This could take ages on a big file though.
One thing that had me foxed for a while though:- In options the field name you are looking for to filter by living flag is '__LIVING' (note there are TWO underscores) and the value is 'Living'.
You can also retain the names of the living or replace them with Living or some other text.
Hope this helps.
