Flag Icons not displaying properly on tree diagram

I have been adding icons onto my family tree diagrams to show censuses, BMD etc and have been using 'Jane's Icons' downloaded from this site. I have had no problems and it has been extremely useful to have these displayed on the tree diagram.

I created some new icons with Photoshop Elements (similar size and resolution to those I downloaded) and saved them as bmp files. When I used these I found that they did not display properly. The icon showed on the diagram but the colour background of the icon did not show ie it was transparent.

I have viewed my icons in excel, word and other programs and they appear correctly.

Any ideas as to the cause ?

I will try and attached in a separate message (if they will upload)a couple of screen captures to illustrate .

Your icon does not have a border colour, I think the black line around the icon is what PSE adds.

If you check out the help for FH, it states that the top left pixel colour is taken to be a background colour and is treated as transparent.

The easy way around this in PSE is CTRL-A to select all and then to add a stroke border in black or white.

Thanks for quick reply Jane. You are correct the icon has no border. I was wondering if that was the problem. I will add a border (stroke) in Photoshop and let you know the outcome.

Many Thanks !!!

I have just added a 1 pixel white border (stroke) in PSE and it has solved the problem.

Many thanks again !!!
