Does anyone know who holds the registers for WW2 ID cards and what detail is included, assuming that such registers exist?

I have not heard of one being available and I suspect if it exists it would probably be restricted until 2045.

My Nan's WW2 identity card was amongst her possessions when she died. It details her name, address and signature along with every address she lived at after the war. The family moved four times altogether and all of the address details are listed along with a date stamp for each time the card was updated. The cards can prove to be quite useful. My Nan's, of course, is of great sentimental value.

Thanks for the replies. I am hoping that any register might have more info than appears on the card. I'll see if FRC has any ideas. Perhaps restrictions won't apply to next-of-kin.

For information: FRC has told me that the register of ID card records was destroyed in 1954 when the registry was wound-up.

Well, at least the records weren't lost by the government on a CD....
