Version 3.1.3 - when ?

Post by JonAxtell » 21 Jan 2008 20:55

Just thinking when the next minor revision to Family Historian will be due. Version 3.1 was released in December of 2006, 3.1.1 in Feburary, and 3.1.2 in May. Since then nothing. I'm sure that there could have been a number of minor improvments and bug fixes since then.

Considering that the change between 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 was to fix some minor problems with EMF files and ZIP file compatibility, there hasn't been any minor fixes to FH since then.

An example of a minor fix is that of supporting Alt-O for any dialog that has the OK button, and Esc for any dialog that has a Cancel button. Such a change should be relatively easy to implement without affecting to many other parts of the program that major testing would need to be carried out.

Version 3.1.3 - when ?

In general I am also interested in the roadmap for FH - when will v4 exist for example and what will be the step change that will leave us reaching for our piggy banks?

Also what impact does the wish list actually have? I conscientiously vote on all new suggestions, but to what avail?

Probably need to contact then? (http://www.family-historian.co.uk/gen/contact.htm)

Would definitely be good to have a roadmap available on the site [cool]

Calico have never pre-announced any new updates or versions, I doubt they are likely to change now.

History shows that they do review and act on the items from the wish list. Many highly ranked items have been done previously.

I'm not asking for any pre-annoucement, but just stating that it's been quite some time since the last minor update. Really, just a prompt to see if Simon can produce an patch/update sooner rather than next year.[wink]
