The American comedian Jeff Foxworthy http://www.jefffoxworthy.com/homepage.shtml has as part of his routine a series of one-line jokes that make up a test to see if you might be a 'redneck'.

The formula goes like this:

'If your house doesn't have curtains, but your truck does, you might be a redneck.'

Well, this morning I got SPAM about getting a general education diploma (i.e. the equivalent of graduation from high school, achieved by taking a test). And later on, I was paying bills and writing out check #1861.

So here's my test:

'If you see the initials GED and they look naked without the COM ... you might be a genealogist.'

and

'If you see the number '1861' and you automatically think 'census year' ... you might be a genealogist.'

You see or hear a name and can list the Birth, Marriage and Death dates and all descendants.

On meeting someone, you don't ask about their job, but who their ancesters were!
