As a Christmas pressie for Mum in Law I want to make up an A4 ring binder with a fold out tree, followed by a narrative report of all the people on it.

The tree, with her ancestors and descendants fits quite nicely on 2h x 6w A4 sheets. What I need is to be able to stick these together (without overlap) with something that will allow them to be concertina folded, and not fall apart after a few months. The left hand edge of one sheet would have a piece of card fixed to it with holes for the ring binding (obviously I'll have to find a binder that's a bit wider than A4.

Can anyone suggest what I should use to stick the sheets together (some sort of adhesive fabric tape maybe) and where I can get it from?

I would try a shop which sells art and craft materials.

If you are not using an overlap, then look for an acid and lignum free transparent tape (you will need to tape both sides to provide enough strength), book repair tape should work.

I would stick the sheets together with Magic Tape, a better grade of matt sellotape. Once you've done that, take the taped sheets to a commercial or high street printer who will print you a single same size copy of the composite 2 x 6 taped sheets. Tidy that up and touch up any imperfections; work out a careful folding plan; plan a binding edge to the left of one A4 section, and bind it into your ring binder.

Hey presto job done, and a far better result than taped joins being folded which simply won't last. As a bonus you also get the chance for further copies which can make the initial effort more worthwhile.

Any decent printer who regularly handles plan printing at A1 or A0 size should be able to do this for a small cost.

Or see if a local printer will print a large pdf version off a memory stick? If you have any architectural practice friends they may have a plotter they are willing to print out on for a smallish cost?

Thanks to all for the suggestions, it's given me something to think about.

I did do a google for print services and found a few places where you could send a file and they'd print it, but prices were £30 upwards for a single A0 sheet.

A neighbour has a friend who has an A1 size printer, so maybe a bottle of something will do the trick there [rolleyes]

Just thought I'd add to this...

Phoned around a couple of local printing shops (eg Prontaprint) and for an A1 colour print (I have photos in the diagram) they want about £40 each [eek]

Worth a nice bottle of Scotch for my neighbours friend if he can do it for me!

Try kingprint.co.uk - small family firm in Luton, never had them print anything other than A5 or A4 leaflets but they were half the price of pronta print and the other big boys

For what its worth, I used Acorns2Oaks who seem to be able to print anything on any size of paper. It was a very professional job (and no, I am not connected with the company!!)
