I have seen on ancestry a tree in which the author had added the letters DNA to the surname of any person entered because they appeared on the tree of a DNA match, with a surname already on the tree but no clear relationship.

So it would be Joe BlogsDNA. Is this a good idea? I dont work from diagrams so I dont see the DNA icon.

I am thinking of doing this - I also use Jane's system which works from the present day match back to shared ancestors but leaves me somewhat at a loss with people who dont fit in.

If you change the Surname of anyone in your Project then that is how it will be presented to the rest of the world.

Internet Data Matches, i.e. Focus Window green 'hints', will involve searches for Joe BlogsDNA rather than Joe Blogs.

Plugins such as Lookup Missing Census Facts and Lookup Missing BMD Records will use Joe BlogsDNA in the automatically created online searches. So you will have to manually correct them to get rational searches.

An alternative that might avoid such problems is to add a Suffix after the Surname, i.e. Joe /Blogs/ DNA.
That is showing the / slashes around Surname to make it clear where the Suffix goes.
i.e. Use Tools > Preferences > Property Box > Show Surnames Between Slashes: Always.

However, there are many other ways of identifying a DNA connection by using Record Flags, Custom Id, Notes, etc, and any of them can be customised to appear in the Main tab of the Property Box.
