Rootsweb FHU Mailing list 'up for adoption'??

Post by LornaCraig »

I assume everyone on the Rootsweb FHU mailing list is receiving this email:
This list is up for adoption.
If it is not claimed in 30 days then this list may be deleted.
If you would like to volunteer, please reply to this email.
You will need to be registered with the New Mailing List System.

When did it become 'orphaned' and in need of adoption?

Yes, what exactly does it mean?
I thought that FHU list was administered by Simon at Calico Pie as explained in info:mailing_list|> FHU Mailing List.

Perhaps the best idea is to post to that list and ask?

To do that It looks like you have to reactivate your Rootsweb account.
I followed the link in the Email and then the instructions about Sign Up whereupon my account was activated and it knew I was subscribed to family-historian-users.rootsweb.com and has my posting activity history.

Like others, I am subscribed to the list and saw the same message come through as Lorna posted earlier. Is this another casualty of the GDPR?

No, I don't think GDPR is anything to do with it - just coincidental.
If you follow the link it explains that it associated with a change in database tool-set.

I'm a bit confused. I was already signed up for the new tool set and I also got the email about the list being "up for adoption". I am also subscribed to 11 other lists and didn't get any such email for any of them. If I go into my settings in Rootsweb it shows me being active for all 12 lists. What is different about the Family Historian Users list?

Don't know what is different about Family Historian Users list, as I don't subscribe to any others.
Maybe Simon has not updated his administrative account?

I signed up recently. I received one digest, and the message under discussion. It didn't seem to be spam, I wondered if the admin had retired?

I signed up to this list quite recently, received one digest and then this message. Did not look like spam, but an admin issue.

I suspect Simon has not jumped through the hoops they introduced for the new mailing server, I have so I get the admin messages, but as he was the Owner he needs to do the same. I'll contact him and remind him to do so.

I contacted Calico Pie and got this response:

...I suspect we have not logged in since the list servers changed, Simon is the list owner so I will ask him to go on after the weekend and sort it out.

I have just activated my account in the new Rootsweb system and find that under my User Profile it's imposible to change my Time Zone from American/Denver to Europe/London (or indeed to anything else). On clicking Update it always reverts to American/Denver. Has anyone else managed to change their Time Zone? It doesn't matter much but it's irritating!

This is probably a question for RootsWeb, as the list owner has very few setting that can be changed.
